The protein comes from 4-5 sources: grass fed whey, pea protein, pumpkin seed, chia seeds and collagen. We did this for a diversified amino acid profile and because these high-quality sources and support digestion.

Our grass-fed whey comes from cows raised on pasture year-round on regenerative farms in New Zealand and Ireland. We source from these regions and do not mix with other whey sources, choosing them for their high farming standards and consistent milk quality.

There are 4-5 sources of protein dependent on if the protein uses a vanilla base. Those protein sources are: chia seed protein, pumpkin seed protein, pea protein, collagen, and whey protein.

A lot of proteins use whey as the only protein source and it tends to upset peoples digestion. That’s why we used 4-5 different proteins. We also use non-denatured whey which is low lactose, so many people who are sensitive to other protein powders have reported that they are able to enjoy the Just Ingredients Protein Powder!

We use stevia leaf crushed up from a wholesale company that provides to manufactures only.

2 years but it also freezes well. There are no preservatives so it is best if it is stored in the house rather than a hot garage.

It’s just a protein powder and not meant to be a meal replacement. Protein shakes lack the variety of vitamins and minerals required to make them a valuable food source. Protein shakes supplement the amino acid intake of a person.

Reviews

Strong spice but great mixer!

"I love all the JI proteins I’ve tried. I wasn’t sure based off the reviews for this one, but I’m glad I tried it! I always do mix and match for my morning protein coffees that I make. Half serving chocolate or vanilla(plant based), then half serving of whatever flavored whey/mixed proteins I feel like. This chai goes so well with my choco caramel chai, the vanilla oatmeal cookie chai, choco chai, you get it. It’s just the accent piece, like 2 baby scoops to the other flavors that get half a scoop. I love the creamy texture that JI add, like the little layer on top when blended. It’s not overly sweet which makes it a great add in too,"

Mm. . . mm Great!

"This is too tasty to be this good for you. I have been around the block when it comes to protein powder and finding the balance between good and great is exceptionally difficult. Just ingredients has nailed the taste consistently and mix ability on this one! I hope to try all the flavors because darn these are delicious."

Douglas S. (5/5)

Amazing flavor and texture

"The flavor is amazing! I have been looking for. Chai flavored protein shake that is healthy, uses quality ingredients, has a smooth texture, and tastes great. I found it! Even my health coach said I found a really great protein powder!"

Rhonda S. (5/5)

Love the chai flavour

"Our whole family loves the Chai protein powder. Great in shakes and baking."

Harmony Q. (5/5)

Hard to swallow

"I am a very huge fan of chai and am familiar with the flavors, but this seems to be an artificial version of what is supposed to be chai. But the worst part is the aftertaste, it's like gummy mold- I don't even know how to describe it. I tried so hard blending it with bananas, mixing it within yogurt, but this product is seriously disgusting. I threw it away. If you are a fan of stevia, sugar-free syrups, or that artificial 'gummy' flavor this may be for you. However, this is a pretty bad quality product"

Emiliana (1/5)

This is probably my least

"This is probably my least favorite protein. . . . it is very strong. So much so it made me a little sick to my stomach. BUT I love all of them otherwise!!"

Tiffany K. (2/5)

So unfortunate

"I love chai lattes, I thought I’d enjoy this. I’m obsessed with all things Just Ingredients, except this chai flavor. This needs to be reworked. It actually tastes like stomach acid, after vomiting. I’ve tried to mix it with different things and it’s just awful."

AB (1/5)

Spice of Life

"I was so amazed--the perfect (not wimpy) Chai taste! I've used it with milk & regular coffee instead of creamer."

Pam H. (5/5)

Love other flavors, but not this one

"I so LOVE JI proteins! But, this one is just hard to get down for me. I love chai normally. I don't mix my other JI protein with milk, so this one with water is awful. Using milk does improve it, but just not my fav!"

Sturm (3/5)

Chai flavor is ok point!

"I add this to my coffee or tea in the morning, it’s an easy way that helps to give a little boost and love that it has so much protein in 1 scoop!"

Q&A

Does this contain caffeine?
Our Chai Protein does not contain any caffeine!
Does using hot or warm milk degrade the ingredient nutrients. I prefer my chai warm and the instructions indicate ice, or cold milk?
Thanks for your question! Using hot or warm milk generally does not significantly degrade the nutrients in our product, so you can enjoy your chai warm without worry. The instructions often suggest ice or cold milk simply because the product mixes well and tastes refreshing that way, but warming your milk is perfectly fine and still delivers the benefits.
Can you list out the amount of each amino in these products, at least on the website, if not the bag?
Hi! Please reach out to our customer support team and we would be happy to provide further information about the amino acids in our Protein Powder!
Hi there! Why do some protein powders show "100% Grass-Fed Non-Denatured Whey Protein Isolate" and some just "100% Grass-Fed Non-Denatured Whey Protein"? Are not all of your protein powders specifically whey protein isolate?
Thank you for reaching out! We're always happy to answer your questions. When it comes to our protein products, here’s how it breaks down: All chocolate-based and pumpkin spice flavors use Whey Protein Isolate (WPI). All vanilla-based proteins use Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC). That said, we use a unique type of WPC—from New Zealand. Unlike standard U.S. WPC (which is about 80% protein and 20% carbs/fats), our New Zealand WPC is 90% protein with only 10% carbs/fats. It’s much closer in composition to WPI. We choose New Zealand WPC for its high quality, grass-fed sourcing, and superior nutrient profile. It’s also more bioavailable, meaning your body can digest and absorb it more easily.
